Sovrin Foundation

The Sovrin Foundation is a nonprofit organization that promotes decentralized identity systems. It was founded to govern and maintain the Sovrin Network, a public, permissioned blockchain designed specifically for self-sovereign identity (SSI). The Sovrin Network enables individuals and organizations to own, control, and share their digital identities without relying on centralized authorities. The foundation’s goal is to provide a trusted, scalable, and interoperable infrastructure for verifiable credentials.

For more information, visit the Sovrin Foundation website.

Mainnet

The primary network for live, production-level identity solutions. It operates on a global scale and is designed to handle real-world identity verification tasks in a secure and reliable manner.

Testnet / Staging

A sandbox environment for developers and organizations to experiment with decentralized identity solutions. It allows testing without risking real-world data or credentials.

BuilderNet

Focused on early-stage development and innovation, this network provides a place for experimenting with new features or ideas. It’s a lower-stakes environment compared to the MainNet and TestNet.

IDunion

IDunion is a European-based consortium focused on building a decentralized identity ecosystem, much like the Sovrin Foundation but with a stronger emphasis on European compliance and standards such as GDPR. They aim to create a self-sovereign identity (SSI) framework that is compliant with European regulations while supporting interoperability with other identity systems.

For more information, visit the IDunion website.

IDunion operates its own set of IndyNetworks, built using Hyperledger Indy technology, similar to Sovrin, but tailored to its members. These networks form the backbone of their decentralized identity infrastructure:

Mainnet

This is the primary, production-level network that IDunion uses for live SSI solutions. It’s designed for use in real-world applications across various sectors. This network is governed by a consortium of European partners, ensuring alignment with European legal standards and fit to the requirements of the member organizations. Testnet

IDunion’s Testnet is a sandbox environment for testing decentralized identity applications and innovations. It allows developers to experiment and build solutions in a risk-free environment before moving them to the Mainnet. Link to Indyscan IDunion Testnet

Indicio

Indicio operates a robust decentralized identity network, providing a trusted, cryptographic foundation for decentralized identity solutions. Their network architecture enables the verification of credentials without storing personal data, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and removing the risks associated with centralized data storage. Indicio’s decentralized structure guarantees reliability, with 100% uptime across its networks for the past four years, and privacy protection by design, as data is always controlled by the end user.

Testnet

The Indicio TestNet is a free-to-use network ideal for developing and testing decentralized identity proof-of-concepts. Built on open-source technologies, it offers a neutral environment for experimentation and development, backed by Indicio's engineering support.

BC Government

The BCovrin TestNet, operated by the British Columbia (BC) Government, is an open decentralized identity network designed for testing and development. Originally, BCovrin had separate development and production ledgers, but these were taken down due to limited usage and the realization that the TestNet was sufficient for most needs. The BCovrin TestNet is used extensively for testing Aries pipelines and decentralized identity solutions, providing a flexible platform for experimentation. It is completely open for publishing test data.

CANdy

The CANdy Network is a decentralized identity network designed to facilitate collaboration between various Canadian regions, including Québec, Ontario, and British Columbia. It supports projects focused on advancing digital trust and verifiable credentials through a secure, decentralized infrastructure. By providing cryptographic assurances, the CANdy Network ensures that digital credentials remain tamper-proof, with no personal data stored on the ledger. This approach aligns with modern privacy regulations, reducing risks associated with centralized data storage.
